Your apprentices finish the technical training. Then the exam stops them.

Red Seal Rescue runs exam-readiness programs for cohorts, built for colleges, union training trusts, ISET agreement holders, and trade service organizations who need their people certified, not just trained.

The gap nobody owns

Technical training ends when the course ends. The Red Seal exam happens after that, on the candidate's own time, with no instructor in the room and nobody accountable for the result.

That gap is where completion numbers go. A candidate who finishes your program and then fails the exam twice still counts as trained. They do not count as certified, they are not earning journeyperson rate, and they are not the outcome your funding was written against.

The failure is rarely trade knowledge. It is exam mechanics: code-book navigation under time pressure, reading what the question stem is actually asking, pacing, and the distance between how a task is done in the field and how it is worded on a multiple-choice paper.

Strong in the field. Frozen on paper. That is the whole problem, and it is fixable.

What a cohort program includes

Diagnostic intake. Every candidate starts with a block-by-block read of their score report, or a baseline assessment if they have not written yet, mapped against the Red Seal Occupational Standard weighting for their trade. We find out where the marks are actually going before anyone opens a book.

A dated plan per candidate. Not one plan for the cohort. They do not all fail the same blocks, and a shared plan wastes the strong candidates' time while leaving the weak ones exactly where they started.

Exam-weighted drills. Time spent in proportion to how the exam is actually weighted, not in proportion to what is easiest to teach.

Timed mock exams with a timing debrief. Most candidates do not run out of knowledge. They run out of clock. We measure that and fix it.

Code-book navigation. Finding the answer fast is a trainable skill, and it is usually the highest-leverage hour in the whole program.

Live coaching sessions. Scheduled around the cohort, including rotational and remote workers.

How it is delivered

Remote by default, which works for rotational schedules, camp-based crews, and northern and rural cohorts that cannot travel to a classroom. On-site delivery is possible depending on location and timing, so ask.

The program runs alongside your existing technical training, or as a standalone block after it for candidates who have already finished and are now stuck at the exam.

Trades we cover

Electrical, construction and industrial. Millwright and industrial mechanic. Heavy equipment technician. Plumbing. Welding.

Canada-wide, with British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario processes validated, and familiarity with both the apprentice and the trade-qualifier pathway. IBEW-friendly.

Reporting and funding

If you are reporting to a funder, a board, or an ISET agreement, tell us what evidence you need to produce before the program starts and we will build the reporting into it rather than reconstructing it afterwards. Cohort-level progress, participation, mock exam results and outcomes can all be reported back to you.

We will not tell you what your agreement covers or what is eligible. That is between you and your funder, and anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing.

What it costs

$1,250 CAD per candidate, plus GST. That covers a diagnostic intake for every candidate, a dated plan built per person rather than per cohort, live sessions, two marked mock exams with a timing debrief, and a completion report back to you. The per-candidate rate moves with volume, multi-cohort commitments, trade mix, delivery format and program length, so treat it as a starting point rather than a fixed fee.

Send us the shape of the cohort and you get a written quote. Published rates are subject to change, as set out in our Terms of Service.

Where we are not a fit

We are not a replacement for technical training and we do not deliver curriculum hours. If what you need is a course, this is not it.

We do not administer, mark, invigilate or influence any certification exam, and we do not control eligibility, exam booking, attempt limits or results. Those belong to your provincial or territorial authority.

And we do not guarantee that a cohort will pass. Coaching improves preparation. It does not write the exam.

Who runs it

Will Nemo, Red Seal electrician, trades instructor, and founder of Red Seal Rescue Coaching, based in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. The programs are built out of field work and exam-prep coaching, not out of a textbook about adult education.
